Is nothing sacred anymore? Over the weekend, the beloved Sesame Street’s character’s account was hacked, with the intruder posting racist messages to Elmo’s 650,000 followers.
Elmo’s X account, known for its steady stream of wholesome, uplifting posts, has more than 650,000 followers who tune in for cheerful messages of support and motivation from the beloved Sesame Street character.
But over the weekend, the account took a disturbing turn, posting a string of racist and antisemitic threats filled with expletives.
The hacker also shared conspiracy-laced messages about the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking investigation, calling on US President Donald Trump to release more information about the convicted sex offender.
The offensive posts were quickly deleted.
“Elmo’s X account was briefly compromised yesterday by an unknown hacker who posted disgusting messages, including antisemitic and racist posts,” a spokesperson told AFP in a statement.
“The account has since been secured.”
