Would you take a pay cut to work from home?

Former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett has caused a bit of a stir by proposing public servants who work remotely should be paid less than those that have no choice but to commute — such as nurses and teachers.

He argues that working from home – which he sees as a response to the massive increase in the cost of living –  is dividing the community and is unfair to those who have to fork out more for transport, meals and other costs.

The shock proposal has been slammed as ‘knee-jerk’ by Aussie trade unions, but arrives at a time when businesses are calling on staff to return to the office.

Is it a discussion we’re ready to have?
