Foo Fighters’ drummer, Josh Freese, has been unexpectedly let go from the band, nearly two years after hiring him to replace their late drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Freese broke the news on Instagram that the band had decided to “go in a different direction” with their drummer, delivering the news without explanation. “In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I’ve never been let go from a band,” he admitted, saying that while he was “shocked and disappointed,” he was ultimately supportive of the band’s choice.

Fans were quick to join the fun, with one perfectly summing up the mood:

“Wait… weren’t these the same 10 reasons that got you hired?”

LOL

Freese’s exit comes just days after the Foo Fighters announced their first show for 2025 – a headline slot at the Singapore Grand Prix in October. Their last live gig was at Seattle’s T-Mobile Park in August 2024.

Meanwhile, frontman Dave Grohl has kept his head down, working on a string of projects, including surprise festival performances and charity work. In September 2024, Grohl surprised fans by revealing he had fathered a child outside his 21-year marriage to Jordyn Blum.

The band is yet to comment on Freese’s departure, or his replacement.
