George Clooney and Meryl Streep are among a group of Hollywood stars who have donated millions to the SAG/AFTRA foundation in support of actors on the picket lines.

In a historic strike not seen since the 60s, the film industry has currently ground to a halt, as actors push for increases to pay and royalties as well as expressing concern over the use of AI to replicate their voice and likeness without their consent.

The massive donations from Streep and Clooney follow the lead of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who shelled out an undisclosed amount that was reportedly the single-largest donation ever to the foundation.

“I remember my days as a waiter, cleaner, typist, even my time on the unemployment line,” wrote Streep in a statement. “In this strike action, I am lucky to be able to support those who will struggle in a long action to sustain against Goliath.”

Other donors include Matt Damon, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Ben Affleck and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
