After its establishment in 2017, AFL Womens (AFLW) has continued to grow across the country. The participation levels of females in sport has risen and many people are getting behind the new era of talent who represent 14 of the major AFL clubs.

Now in its fourth year, AFLW is continuing to push the boundaries, which has prompted people to wonder on what the future of the AFL should be – and whether not men’s competition should have a name change.

There is talk today that the AFL could potentially be interested in naming the men’s league ‘AFLM’, which would match the women’s competition.

The conversation has left footy fans with mixed feelings which prompted AFL House to make a statement on the matter.

We think both competitions are fantastic, whatever names they fall under.
