A woman has been found dead with a 2.4-metre reticulated python wrapped around her neck.

Laura Hurst, 36, from Benton County, Indiana had been at a house where about 140 snakes were kept, 20 of which were hers.

It appeared the woman had been “strangled by the snake,” Indiana State Police said.

It’s understood she was at the property, described as a “reptile home”, a couple of times a week.

Police said the reticulated python was wrapped loosely around the woman’s neck.

The person who found her was able to unwrap the python but she was unable to be revived.

An autopsy is yet to determine the cause of death.
