The Age is reporting that there are fears the factory is full of illegally stored toxic waste and chemical waste.
Authorities have not confirmed this.
The Environment Protection Authority is on the scene and monitoring air quality.
Massive black plumes of smoke are billowing from the factory so a smoke warning has been issued for Broadmeadows, Pascoe Vale, Coburg and a ‘watch and act’ message has been sent out for Campbellfield, Coolaroo and Somerton.
Residents should close vents, turn off heating and cooling systems and bring pets indoors.

Crews are battling a large factory #fire in #Campbellfield. Community members are advised to avoid the area and keep the roads clear for emergency services.
If sensitive to smoke close windows and doors and turn off heating and cooling systems.
