Fire-prone Yarra Valley communities will be staging emergency evacuation drills ahead of the upcoming bushfire season.
Powelltown and neigjbouring Three Bridges and Gilderoy locals will be taking part in the exercise to test out emergency pans.
The event will take place on October 26 and will prepare both the emergency services and community for the ‘very real’ threat of bushfires.
Powelltown has its own water supply, following Black Saturday, to ensure it is prepared if it becomes isolated during an emergency.
It also has an SMS system, to alert residents of any impending danger.
Powelltown Water Association secretary Kim Mallamaci said “This exercise is useful to us for testing our own plans. We understand the risk and likelihood we might get cut off if we don’t leave early.”
The evacuation will be followed by a community meeting at the Powelltown Football Ground.
