They call themselves Melbourne’s ‘forgotten suburb’ and now they want to secede from their council.
Gowanbrae Residents Group have started campaigning to split from Moreland Council after “years of neglect”.
The homeowners are ticked off they’ve lost their popular Gowanbrae Festival, have consistently poor public transport, and most recently a walking path was built that leads directly into a fence.
Now they want to break away from Moreland and merge with Moonee Valley.
“We’re a better fit in Moonee Valley. Moreland is an inner city council and we’re not inner city,” Group Secretary Rick Arden said.
While it doesn’t have unanimous support, it seems Moonee Valley Council is on board as well – writing to state Local Government Minister Adem Somyurek to request it take control of the suburb.
