Some drivers choose to personalise their number plates with nicknames, colours and sometimes even patterns but now it seems those wishing to express themselves creatively on their licence plates can start adding symbols!
In a very unexpected move, Queensland drivers will soon be able to add emojis to their plates with the move set to kick in from March 1st.
The new designs are being rolled out by Personalised Plates Queensland (PPQ) but not all emojis will be allowed. In fact, commuters will only be able to choose between five symbols in particular.
So if you were hoping to add a cheeky eggplant, you’d better head back to the drawing board! On offer are the laugh out loud emoji, a wink face, the face wearing sunglasses, heart eyes emoji or a simple smiley face.
“For quite some time we’ve seen that you can support your favourite team or your favourite town with a symbol on your number plate,” RACQ Dr Rebecca Michael said to 7 News.
“And using an emoji is no different.”
Of course, the emoji additions won’t come cheap and if drivers want to add one to their number plate they fill have to fork out anywhere between $160 and $500.
People have of course taken to social media to express their opinions on the new design idea and the verdicts are very mixed.
“Getting a car will no be even more exciting,” said one user.
“What kind of dumb idea…” wrote another.
If you’re one of the people excited by the idea, sadly it’s only available in Queensland at the moment. But hopefully you’ll be able to add emoji’s all over Australia soon enough!
