A bushfire is currently burning out of control in Gembrook.

Multiple fires have been ignited in the Bunyip State Park, and firefighters are working to bring the blaze under control.

A watch and act has been issued for Beenak, Gembrook, and Whites Corner.

Lightning strikes sparked the fires around 3 pm today, a State Control Centre spokesperson said.

“A watch and act is in place for the area and for residents around Gembrook Road,” the spokesperson said.

“The fire is currently travelling in a northwesterly direction and is nearing the Gilwell Scout Park.”

“The message to residents is stay close to a building that you can shelter in as condition can change quickly.”
