New research could reveal the secret to staving off dementia and stroke for the elderly.

The study in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that exercising early in the morning can improve blood flow in the brain for those aged 55-80.

While early morning exercise may seem like a chore it looks like the health effects could go well beyond just cardiovascular or strength improvement.

Lowered blood flow to the brain is a serious red flag for both dementia and stroke as it deprives the brain of energy and nutrients.

The study found that after a half-hour walk and a 3-minute walk every half hour after that can fully restore blood flow to the brain.
