From next year, all public schools in WA will ban students using mobile phones during school hours.

The move has just been announced by the state government following consultations with schools that already have successful guidelines in place.

Under the policy, students won’t be allowed to use tablets, earbuds or headphones unless they are given permission. All smart watches must also be set to airplane mode.

Children from kindergarten to Year 6 won’t be allowed to have a phone in their possession at all during school hours, while high schoolers will have to have their phones off and out of sight.

Parents who need to contact their children during the day will need to go through the school’s administration.
