Tram strikes will cause major chaos during the Australian Grand Prix as the long-running pay dispute between Yarra Trams & the Rail, Tram & Bus Union steps up.

The transport union has announced six more days of strike action, with workers walking off four hours per strike.

The first round will happen between 10 AM and 2PM on March 4 and 5.

Stoppages will then run from 10am to 3 pm on March 12 and 13 and from noon to 4 pm on March 14 and 15.

Extra tram services are usually added for major events but in this case, they will be suspended.

RTBU state secretary Luba Grigorovitch said “We expect that Yarra Trams will once again pretend to sympathise with the public and dishonestly claim it is trying to meet with the RTBU and industrial action is unnecessary. However, the truth is that Yarra Trams repeatedly cancels meetings and is delaying the negotiation process.”
