An iconic Melbourne China Town restaurant has been forced to close up after coronavirus has made customers too anxious to eat in.

Shark Fin House has served customers for more than 30 years but now has a notice on the door saying it is closed until February 20.

Vanessa Lau, general manager of Shark Fin Inn, a sister restaurant, has confirmed the closure may be permanent.

She told the Herald Sun Shark Finn House was shutting indefinitely and expressed her gratitude to the many devastated customers who had contacted her.

Victorian Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton urged people to get behind Chinese businesses.

“We should be reaching out to the Chinese and broader Asian community at this extremely difficult time for them, and support businesses and events that are now part of the Australian fabric’’ he said.
