A distraught mother was separated from her baby on a train at Southern Cross Station on Friday afternoon.

Witnesses say she managed to get the pram and baby onto the train but became stuck in the closing doors.

The doors proceeded to close on her arms, forcing her to let go of the pram as the train left the station.

The train departed with her baby onboard, leaving the distressed mum stranded on the platform.

A group of people allegedly realised what happened, and took care of the child.

The baby was disembarked at the next station (Flagstaff) where the mother and child were re-united.
