Practice at the Australian Open has been temporarily suspended and qualifiers were pushed back an hour due to the hazardous smoke haze that’s blanketed the city.

“Further decisions will be made using onsite data and in close consultation with our medical team, the Bureau of Meteorology and scientists from EPA Victoria,” a statement from organisers read.”

“As always the health and safety of our players, our staff and our fans is our priority.”

The issue of smoke has plagued the lead-up to this year’s Grand Slam, with world number two Novak Djokovic saying that the tournament should be postponed if need be.
