A six-week-old rottweiler has been found on the brink of death and horribly abused inside a cardboard box on the side of a busy road in Hampton Park.

‘Bear’ was found by a good Samaritan who discovered him with gruesome injuries including a lacerated face and failing organs.

He was taken to a vet where the puppy underwent six hours of surgery and is now making a miraculous recovery.

The brave little fella isn’t completely out of the woods but one of the nurses has adopted him and he’s under good care.

It comes as the number of abandoned animals in Melbourne’s south-east has increased in the past month.

Australian Animal Protection Society communications officer Charlie Keele urges people in that situation to bring any unwanted animals to their shelter at 1/132 Bangholme Rd, Dandenong South.

You can donate to a GoFundMe set up for Bear here.
