The historic Presentation College Windsor will close its doors next year due to dwindling enrolment numbers.

The 146-year-old Catholic secondary girls’ school is run by the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary but will shut at the end of 2020.

Its left parents and some 700 students devastated, and an online petition to save the school has already garnered over 1000 signatures.

“Despite our best efforts to sustain and grow our learning environment, enrolments have continued to be a challenge for us,” congregational leader of Presentation Sisters Victoria, Sister Maria Lazzaro wrote to parents.

“This decline has occurred despite the good work of the current and previous administration of the college.

“Comprehensive reviews of the college in both 2002 and 2018 indicate that the number of students intending to enrol in the college in the next decade are unlikely to recover to the level needed to resource a successful Catholic secondary college in the 21st century.”

The decision has now left teachers and parents in the lurk, as they need to find new employment and schools for their kids respectively.
