Moulin Rouge is coming to Melbourne after a historic run on Broadway.
The widely-lauded show is a stage adaptation of Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film, and will touch down in Melbourne in 2021.
The show has been described a feast for the senses, with a $40 million budget that, according to The Age, “includes actress Karen Olivo swinging from the roof as the sparkling courtesan Satine and a whiplash-like soundtrack of 70 pop songs, from Beyonce to Lady Gaga and Britney Spears, that echoes Luhrmann’s iconic soundtrack of modern music set to a 1890s storyline.”
The Regent Theatre will play host to the musical spectacular, and will undergo a significant facelift in time (hopefully) for opening night.
