Huge news for hay fever sufferers as Melbourne City Council announced it’s going to remove most of its London plane trees.

While the trees are known for triggering allergic reactions, the real reason they’re getting ditched is to increase tree species diversity and make way for more drought-resistant trees.

London planes on Lonsdale and Southbank Boulevard have already begun to be removed and will be replaced with some 3400 new ones across the city.

It’s not yet known which species will replace them.
