The Royal Australian Mint is releasing the world’s first Donation Dollar: a one-dollar coin designed to be donated. This comes as The Australian Generosity Report reveals almost three-in-five Australians would be likely to donate the coin if found in their change.

At the heart of the Donation Dollar is a vehicle for all Australians to engage in a moment of generosity, prompted by a simple $1 coin.

The intention behind the program is to promote charitable behaviour and to provide a tangible, accessible way for people to enjoy the benefit of giving a small amount more frequently.

“The Donation Dollar can be spent like any other $1 coin, but when donated makes an on-going impact on the lives of Australian’s in need.” Minister Sukkar said.

The Donation Dollar will start to progressively be released into circulation across the country, with around 3 million already being released from the 2nd of September 2020.
