Severe storms in parts of Australia have shown how vulnerable houses can be. It’s important to prepare your property for wild weather; especially if you’re planning to sell in the future.
First, remove leaf litter from drains and gutters. Too much debris can see rain water overflow into the roof cavity, causing structural damage, or a build-up of mould, which can cause health problems. Broken tiles are dangerous so check them for damage every year.
Next, ensure your trees are healthy. Rotting branches are weak and more likely to fall during strong winds, causing damage to your home and car. They also put family members in danger.
Make sure outdoor furniture can be restrained or put away, because you don’t want it flying around and finally, check your home and landlord insurance. Make sure it includes storm damage, otherwise you might end up out of pocket.
