An eight-year-old child has had a birthday to remember after Victoria Police broke up their birthday party on Sunday afternoon, handing out more than $26,000 worth in fines to those in attendance.

16 people were found to be in breach of the 1.5 metre rule at the Beaumaris residence at the gathering, which was decorated with signs and balloons.

Police were tipped off by a concerned resident.

As part of the current stay at home directives, Victorians are not allowed to visit friend’s homes unless it is for an essential purpose, such as medical care.

Anyone caught in breach of breaking stay at home directives face on the spot fines of $1,652.


Victoria Police issued a total of 91 fines on Sunday, which included breaking up a basketball match and catching people who were drinking together in a car.
