At the start of year, The Christian O’Connell Show was inspired by a listener named Jason who wanted to give away his $1000 winnings to local charity Backpacks 4 Vic Kids.

The cause helps displaced children who find themselves without essential items when in crisis. They are given a backpack filled with clothes, books, a toothbrush, stationary and even a torch. It’s a little bit of dignity when they need it the most.

Listeners from around the globe have dug deep and as of publishing, the show has raised over $100,000 since the fundraiser began.

Sally Beard from Backpacks 4 Vic Kids was close to tears when she spoke to Christian O’Connell on Thursday morning about the fundraiser which she says will have cover the costs of the program over the next few months.
