Honda has issued an urgent recall for thousands of cars due to a serious safety concern.

The voluntary recall relates to vehicles manufactured between 1998 and 2000 which may be fitted with the Takata NADI 5-AT airbags.

The airbags are known to under deflate or mis-deploy in an accident, which can cause metal fragments to propel out of the airbag at high speed, resulting in serious injuries or death.

The affected models are the Honda Accord, model years 1998-2000; the Honda CR-V, model years 1998-2000 and the Honda Legend, model years 1998-2000.

Owners of affected vehicles are advised to stop driving their cars immediately and contact their manufacturer.
