It’s one of the internet’s original memes, and now it could be about to disappear forever.
After 14 years and over 880 million views on YouTube, the video known to all as “Charlie Bit My Finger” is being removed.
Within the next few days, the iconic video will be taken down from YouTube to be sold as an exclusive NFT.
If you (like the rest of us) have no idea what an NFT, or non-fungible token is, it kind of means that the video is being turned into something that can be sold to the highest bidder.
So effectively, the guys behind the video are selling the rights to the video and the internet will be poorer for it.
There’s no word yet on how much the NFT for the video is set to fetch, although the creators are thought to have already cashed in on both advertising and merchandising from *that* moment.
There’s also been no confirmation from Charlie and the family about whether they plan on attempting to take down all the hundreds of reposted versions of the video that exist online. Looks like we will find out in the coming weeks!
