Australia’s energy giants have promised households and businesses that they will not lose power should they face financial hardship due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The guarantee is part of a new relief package that includes savings on bills that will help consumers get through “extraordinarily tough times.”

Businesses could save $1000 over the next three months, whilst families on government support payments could see refunds of around 20% being either refunded or deferred into other hardship plans.

Non-essential small businesses that have been forced to close, such as pubs and restaurants will also see their disconnection and reconnection fees waived.

The full relief package by Energy Networks Australia will be released later today.
