The Fat Duck

Headed up by British celeb chef Heston Blumenthal, this one isn’t for those who are trying to save pennies – with meals setting customers back $500, it’s a hefty price to pay but no doubt worth it. People went nuts for this place when it opened, with a ballot system allowing only a lucky few in but attracting over 90,000 requests. Phew!

Supernormal

Think Chin Chin, but with Japanese food. From the people who brought you Cumulus and Cutler & Co, Supernormal has it all – lobster rolls, delicate Japanese flavours and novelty features like candy vending machines and a karaoke bar.

Maha

If it’s Middle Eastern food you’re after, look no further – Maha has you covered. The city restaurant has an incredible menu with everything from salmon kibbeh nayyeh to honey and saffron pork belly, and for those who like their meals sans animal products, Maha also caters excellently to vegans.

Belle’s Hot Chicken

In the heart of trendy Fitzroy lies this chicken-based eatery, replacing its former namesake, Belle’s Diner. Here you’ll find Southern-fried chicken, from mild heat to “really f**kin hot”. With good sides and wines to go with it, you won’t be leaving hungry.

Mastic

The latest venture from George Calombaris, Mastic is a “lifestyle cafe” that has it all. Word is that Heston Blumenthal comes here when he’s in town for his green smoothie fix, so you know it’s good. Set in the leafy surrounds of Kew, this is one for those who like to kick back, relax and enjoy a good brunch.
