Sound the alarms, the world’s largest Nutella factory has suspended production over a “quality defect”.

The factory, in northern France, produces around 600,000 jars every day – about a quarter of the world’s Nutella.

Ferrero, Nutella’s owner, announced that the defect had been found on 19 February in a product used in Nutella and Kinder Bueno products.

All operations at the factory have been temporarily suspended but the company said that the move was just “precautionary” and that no jars of Nutella currently on shelves were affected.

Last year, a 70 percent discount on Nutella sparked chaos in French supermarkets.

“They are like animals. A woman had her hair pulled, an elderly lady took a box on her head, another had a bloody hand,” a customer had, at the time, described the scene to the BBC.
