A poker game between 13 people in Melbourne was crashed by police overnight after the group was caught breaching stay-at-home directives set by the Victorian Government.
The group was slapped with fines for gathering together, with individuals facing penalties of $1652 for disobeying the guidelines.
Another group of four were also caught out gathering at a friend’s house and were also issued slapped with fines.
Out of 540 spot checks at homes, businesses and non-essential services in the past 24 hours across the state, Victoria Police handed out 67 fines.
“Victoria Police are out there doing very important work. Please don’t make their task any harder than it needs to be,” Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said in a press conference on Friday morning.
“The best thing to do to avoid a fine, to avoid our health system being overrun, to avoid thousands of people needlessly dying, please follow the rules. That is a simple but very important message.”
