Ever skipped washing your sheets because it’s too much of a chore? Well if you have, you might want to reconsider before doing so again.

Hygiene Doctor and Dettol expert Dr Lisa Ackerley, has revealed what really happens to your body when you don’t wash your sheets every week, and it will put you off skipping laundry day ever again.

“Depending upon what your bed is used for, and also how clean you are when you get in it (and indeed whether you wear nightwear), your bed can get pretty filthy and may actually be causing your body harm,” she told Daily Mail.

Lisa warns that when you don’t wash your sheets weekly you could be putting yourself at risk of contracting serious viruses and infections, including Athlete’s Foot, yeast infections and bacteria and fungi viruses. Not to mention you could also be creating the perfect breeding and feeding ground for dust mites.

Not exactly the type of place you want to be spending one-third of your time.


To keep your bed clean and germ-free, Lisa also suggests washing sheets in very high temperatures, showering just before bed, getting rid of dust in your room, using pillow and mattress protectors and changing your pajamas every three days.
