Hailey is nine years old and lives in Washington in the US.

Four years ago she saw a homeless person on the street and asked her Mum if they could do anything to help.

So they bought him lunch, but since then Hailey has moved onto bigger ways to help.

She has begun construction on a mobile shelter for her friend Edward, who was left without a home after he lost his job at a supermarket.

The 1.2m by 2.4m structure will be complete with insulation, windows and wheels to make it easy to move from place to place.

Hailey builds the shelters by hand, with some help from her Mum and Granddad to help her wield the power tools.

She hopes to have finished 12 by the end of the year, finding space for them in a tent-city which is planned to open in her hometown of Bremerton, Washington later this year.

Each shelter costs about $300 to build and she has recieved financial help to build them via her gofund.me page, which at the time of publication had reached $24,350 of her $25,000 goal, in nine days.

As well as creating shelters, she also aims to help feed the homeless – having donated 58kgs of fresh fruits and vegetables from her own garden last year.

This year she aims to grow and donate 250lbs of food, as well as donating 1,000 toiletries, 500 feminine hygiene products, 100 coats and as many shelters as she can find space for.
