Victoria’s system for collecting fines has colaposed and it will leave a several hundred million dollar hole in the states finances.
The software system used by Fines Victoria does not work and has lead to a massive backlog of infringement notices that can’t then be enforced by the Department of Justice.
The outstanding infringement include court, parking, red-light camera and speeding fines.
It’s being blamed on a software package called VIEW, which is bought off the shelf by company Civica, who enforced London’s congestion charge.
Teams of technicicans are now working on the software but it will not operational for a year.
Magistrates and County Court officials confirmed they had 123,000 outstanding fines, amounting to several hundred million dollars, which sheriffs cannot then enforce.
