It’s My Party hitmaker Lesley Gore has lost her battle with cancer at the age of 68.
The openly-gay singer/songwriter passed away at New York-Presbyterian Hospital on Monday, her longtime partner, Lois Sasson, confirms.
Gore was discovered at 16 by producer Quincy Jones and they shot to fame with the chart smash It’s My Party.
She continued to find success with tracks like Judy’s Turn to Cry, You Don’t Own Me, She’s a Fool and the Grammy-nominated Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows.
She also penned songs for the movie musical Fame in 1980 and earned an Oscar nomination for Out Here on My Own.
Gore also tried her hand at acting and portrayed Catwoman’s sidekick in cult TV series Batman.
