Red Hot Chili Peppers might be one of the most recognizable bands on the planet, but they were recently mistaken for another world-famous rock band. According to bassist Flea, the Peppers were confused with the equally recognizable Metallica while they were traveling through the Belarus airport.

“We were called into customs officials office at an airport in Belarus and they asked us to sign a bunch of Metallica cd’s and photos,” Flea writes on his Instagram. “We tried to explain to them that we weren’t Metallica but they insisted that we sign anyway. They had the power.”

Flea adds that he did once play “Fight Fire with Fire” with Metallica, but he’s “no Robert Trujillo,” referring to the metal band’s bassist.

Red Hot Chili Peppers recently completed a tour through Europe in support of their new album, The Getaway. The band will return to North America later this week to play the Ottawa Bluesfest, and they’ll headline Lollapalooza in Chicago July 30.
