It’s fair to say that every man and his dog has an Instagram account these days to share photos and videos about their day to day life.
And now it seems that even the royal family have decided to get in on the action after the Queen of England just made her first ever post!
While the royal family have had their own official Instagram account for some time now, this is the first time that an image has been posted directly from Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II.
And we seriously couldn’t love this more! Of course she didn’t use any emojis or quirky lingo during her post. In fact it was quite a formal message. But it reminds us exactly of every single adorable grandparent who’s ever joined social media.
In her social media debut, made with an iPad on Thursday, Queen Elizabeth detailed her visit to the Science Museum in London alongside a picture of an old letter sent to Prince Albert from mathematician and inventor Charles Babbage.
“Today, as I visit the Science Museum I was interested to discover a letter from the Royal Archives, written in 1843 to my great-great-grandfather Prince Albert,” she wrote.
”Charles Babbage, credited as the world’s first computer pioneer, designed the ‘Difference Engine’, of which Prince Albert had the opportunity to see a prototype in July 1843. In the letter, Babbage told Queen Victoria and Prince Albert about his invention the ‘Analytical Engine’ upon which the first computer programmes were created by Ada Lovelace, a daughter of Lord Byron.
“Today, I had the pleasure of learning about children’s computer coding initiatives and it seems fitting to me that I publish this Instagram post, at the Science Museum which has long championed technology, innovation and inspired the next generation of inventors.”
Her Royal Highness then signed off with, “Elizabeth R.”
Queen Elizabeth II attend the museum on Thursday to open the new Smith Centre and to announce a new exhibit about communications intelligence called Top Secret.
Let’s hope we start seeing more posts from the Queen in the future! And we’ll just be here casually waiting for all of the other royals to join in suit.
