After releasing his new song, “Baltimore,” Prince performed it at the Rally 4 Peace concert he held in the Maryland city on Sunday.
Prince played the song shortly after taking the stage at Royal Farms Arena, according to the Baltimore Sun.
“Baltimore” was written in response to the incident in the city involving Freddie Gray — who died one week after suffering a spinal injury while in police custody — and the ensuing riots. Prince released the song via SoundCloud on Saturday.
Prince commented at Sunday’s concert, “The system is broken. It’s going to take the young people to fix it this time. We need new ideas, new life….The next time I come to Baltimore I want to stay in a hotel owned by you.”
Special guests included Miguel, Estelle, and Doug E. Fresh.
