The stars of the iconic 1990 film — Julia Roberts, Richard Gere, Hector Elizondo, Laura San Giacomo and director Garry Marshall — celebrated Pretty Woman’s quarter-century mark on the Today Show this week.

Roberts, now 47, was just 22 years old when she starred as prostitute Vivian Ward in the film that turned her into a Hollywood star.

Gere, 65, played wealthy businessman Edward Lewis, who hired Vivian to be his escort for a couple of weeks, with the pair eventually falling in love.

Hector Elizondo, who played hotel manager Barney Thompson, was nominated for a Golden Globe for his likable role in the fairytale flick.

Laura San Giacomo, now 52, played fellow prostitute Kit De Luca. Today she is also known as the star of NBC sitcom Just Shoot Me!

The cast members relived their favourite moments from the rom com with host Matt Lauer, which will air in the US on Tuesday, March 24.

“It was wild and we did the whole thing to keep in the theme of the movie, in a bathtub with the bubbles, singing Kiss,” Lauer teased in the preview.

In honour of the beloved film’s 25th birthday, here are a few fun facts you might not have known about Pretty Woman.

• Julia Roberts’ head was actually superimposed on the body of famed body double Shelley Michelle for the movie poster.

• Roberts won the role after Michelle Pfeiffer, Molly Ringwald, Meg Ryan, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Karen Allen, and Daryl Hannah all turned it down.

• The opera Edward and Vivian went to see was called La Traviata, which is actually about a prostitute who falls in love with a wealthy man.

• The necklace was worth a staggering $250,000 and the jewellery store actually sent a security guard to be present during filming.

• As for the necklace scene, it was improvised by Gere because Roberts wasn’t feeling well and he was trying to make her laugh. Her reaction was so good they decided to keep it in.

• Richard Gere actually played the piano in that famous sex scene and he also composed the piece of music that he plays.

• Speaking of Gere, his hair throughout the film is salt and pepper, but on the poster it is dark brown.

• Christopher Reeve, Denzel Washington and Daniel Day-Lewis were reportedly considered for Gere’s part, and Al Pacino, Albert Brooks and Sylvester Stallone were all offered the role but turned it down.

• Pretty Woman was originally titled $3,000 — the amount Vivian was paid for the week.

• Julia Roberts, Richard Gere, Hector Elizondo and Kathleen Marshall all starred together in Runaway Bride nine years after Pretty Woman was released.
