A healthy Shih Tzu mix was put down to fulfill her owner’s dying wish in Virginia.

Emma’s owner passed away and her will stipulated that she was to be euthanised and buried with her.

The pup was taken to the animal shelter where she stayed for two weeks while the shelter put forward a number of alternative options and homes that were happy to adopt her.

The executor of the will repeatedly declined all of these other options and Emma was taken to a local vet and put down on March 22. Her ashes were then put in an urn and then buried with her owner.

As pets are technically personal property in the eyes of the law, it’s legal to put down perfectly healthy animals.
