Just days after teasing us with a 30-second snippet of their first track in almost six years, AC/DC have released ‘Shot In The Dark’ in its full glory.

Guitarist Angus Young said their new album PWR/UP was actually finished months ago and the band was gearing up to promote the record… then “the pandemic thing” happened.

“We had just finished up and, a week later, the big virus [hit],” Young said. “It put a bit of a big delay on a lot of stuff, it just stopped us in our tracks.”

All the new material are ideas and songs that Angus and brother, the late Malcolm Young, had worked on over the years.

He told Rolling Stone that PWR/UP “is pretty much a dedication to Malcolm, my brother.”

“It’s a tribute for him like ‘Back in Black’ was a tribute to Bon Scott.”

Before 2008’s Black Ice, the Young brothers had spent years writing material. So much material that most of it ended up unrecorded.

“There were a lot of tracks the two of us had worked on [and] thought were great AC/DC tracks,” he said.

“I know Malcolm had said ‘OK, we’ll leave these for now, but we’ll get them next time around’ and I thought, well, this is a perfect time to get those tracks out.”

Earlier this week, a promo shot featuring Angus and bandmates Brian Johnson, Cliff Williams, Phil Rudd and Stevie Young was captioned ‘ARE YOU READY?’

What really got fans in a lather was that they hadn’t seen this line-up since 2014’s Rock or Bust.

And it seems that getting the band back together was simply a case of touching base with everyone.

“We got in contact with Brian, Cliff, Phil and Stevie to see who wanted to be on board and everyone was buzzin’ and excited to go,” Young said.

“We all got behind the instruments and Brian got behind the microphone and off we went!”

Johnson described that first day back in the recording studio.

“You can imagine, we’re getting in for the first time in a long time and Angus comes in with some great stuff, great music, and the boys are plugged in and it was just electricity,” the frontman recalled.

“The overall vibe was, just, it was great, we did what we do!”

Johnson confirmed the name of the album as PWR/UP and it was exactly what the band did as soon as they got back together.

“When you call a band AC/DC, you want it full power, you don’t want a power outage!”
