Melbourne Airport will spend $300 million on a new taxiway network to improve plane movements, expand services, increase passenger numbers and cut down on late or delayed flights.

Staff will begin work on the new network from Monday, providing aircraft better access to terminals and runways, The Herald Sun reports.

It is expected the new taxiway system will increase air traffic at Tullamarine to new airline routes and passengers.
