A new documentary on Marvin Gaye will go into production later this year. And members of his family including three of his children and his second wife, Janis are endorsing and contributing to it.
According to Variety, the film will centre on the creation of his iconic album What’s Going On. With a backdrop of the Vietnam War and the assassination of Doctor Martin Luther King, the producers say Gaye’s project “challenged America and the world to self-reflect [and went] on to inspire a generation of artists and music lovers.”
Filming is set for later this year in Detroit, Los Angeles and Washington. It will feature exclusive interviews with Motown artists and never-before-seen family footage.
Expect the still-untitled documentary to be in theatres in 2017.
