Married At First Sight’s Nic Jovanovic has revealed that his testicular cancer returned while filming the reality show last year.
Four years after battling the disease, the 28-year-old noticed his left testicle had shrunk in size.
However, it wasn’t until Christmas that he discovered a ‘semi-hard kind of lump’ on the testicle, which prompted him to consult a doctor. It was here that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer for the second time.
In an interview with 9Honey, Nic reflected on the shock diagnosis, saying: “I couldn’t believe it. Four years later… there was so much going on in my life, for it to come back, I’m still in shock that it came back.”
“You think being that young and having dealt with it once, surely that’s it. And then over Christmas I was having a shower and I was sort of having a feel as you do, as most men should do.”
The electrician was diagnosed when the reality show had just finished production, and the cast had not filmed the reunion episode yet. His surgeon reluctantly agreed to delay surgery by a week so Nic could finish filming the reality show.

To think 4 years ago, the 13th of sept. I received the worst news anyone could receive. But it was also the news that saved my life. As majority of you know I was diagnosed with the big C… My world was turned upside down. (It is in the past now, Where it belongs!) Others are not so lucky, and for me to come out on top I am forever incredibly grateful! I am blessed and thank God every day for all the good in my life. I cherish everything and everyone in my life. I'm healthy, happy and always smiling! Don't ever take anything for granted; if something doesn't feel right, It's for a reason! This is just a friendly reminder to all my friends and family to not be afraid to go and get a check up. It could save your life. – It saved mine. My check up had nothing to do with my cancer and it was lucky I was in the right place at the right time. God Bless and fuck cancer!! #FkCancer
“So [I] arrived on January 29 for surgery and, funny enough, in the waiting room my wedding episode was on repeat,” he says.
“Nurses approaching me in confusion knowing my story from watching the show… but unaware why I am back again.”
After undergoing surgery, he underwent chemotherapy.
Fortunately, a recent blood test has confirmed that Nic is now completely cancer-free.
While he has been given a clean bill of health, if he does wish to have children, he will need to access IVF using sperm he had stored before beginning his initial treatment.
“I just want men out there, even females, [to know] if something doesn’t feel right it’s for a reason. Just check. What’s the harm? It doesn’t affect your ego,” Nic told 9Honey.
“You’re probably getting a day off work to go to the doctor. Just go get it checked. Don’t take the risk.
“There’s so many people around you that are going to suffer if you’re not there, especially yourself. So just, get it checked, don’t be afraid, don’t be embarrassed.”
