A British man has been caught on CCTV releasing a rat in a restaurant to get out of paying his bill.
Christopher Baker apparently couldn’t handle coughing up the $AUD13.70 it would’ve cost for him to pay for his dinner at Borneo Bistro in Sunderland, so after he paid, he released a rat from the pocket of his pants- and then demanded his money back due to the infestation.
Unfortunately for the 28-year-old, CCTV footage shows him doing just that, and he’s now facing court charges.
Baker’s lawyer claims that his client was a little drunk and had actually bought the rat as a present for his daughter. (And just casually carried it around in his pants.)
The lawyer claims that the rat bit Baker’s finger, which caused him to panic and flee the restaurant before returning to demand his money back.
Restaurant owner Kevin Smith is none too happy with the events that have transpired, saying that the customer could ruin the reputation of his business – and suggesting some pretty intense punishments.
He called Baker “the scum of the earth” and told the Sunderland Echo, “People like him deserve the death penalty. As far as I’m concerned, he shouldn’t be in our society.”
Luckily for Baker, the judge didn’t sentence him to death, but has slapped him with a 12-month community order with supervision and a victim surcharge to the restaurant owner.
He has also been banned from entering the restaurant for a year.
