You’d think Madonna would know basic theatre etiquette. The pop icon took in a performance of the Off-Broadway hip-hop musical Hamilton in New York City Saturday evening, but she was reportedly texting throughout the entire second act.
Lin-Manuel Miranda, who also wrote the show’s script, took a curtain call and urged the audience to donate money to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. He then noted that there was an unnamed person in the audience could afford to pay a lot for something he was auctioning off, and might think about doing so since she did a lot of texting.
According to New York’s Daily News, Miranda then tweeted, “Tonight was the first time I asked stage management NOT to allow a celebrity (who was texting all through act two) backstage #noselfieforyou.” The tweet was later deleted.
