Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz’s only great-granddaughter Desiree Anzalone has passed away, aged 31.
People report that Anzalone passed away after a six-year battle with breast cancer.
“Watching her slip away was just, I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy,” her mother Julia Arnaz told the publication.
“No mother should have to watch that.
“She was so special. All our children are special, but this little girl was something else. We were (best friends). We are still. She was so beautiful, just so, so beautiful inside and out.
“She really, really reminded me a lot of my grandmother, more so than I.”
According to her Obituary, the 31-year-old loved music from the ’60s and ’70s, as well as “art, songwriting, poetry and playing the piano”.
“She was a talented photographer and enjoyed paying guitar with her father, singing and modelling photography,” it reads.
People report that Anzalone was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer at the page of 25, and underwent chemotherapy and a double mastectomy. However, her cancer returned to stage 4 in 2018, and had spread to her bones, liver and lungs.
“The COVID-19 kept us apart, so I wasn’t able to see her as much as I usually do because she was compromised and I didn’t want her getting sick in any kind of way,” her mother told the publication.
“So I wasn’t able to spend as much time with her as I normally do because of the COVID since March.”
Despite being a ‘rare’ case, her mother added that Anzalone was deeply passionate about raising awareness for women her age and younger to be checked for breast cancer.
She is survived by her parents, her step-parents Nancy and Halbert Massey, grandparents Susan Callahan Howe, Desi Jr. Carol Anzalone, great-grandmother, Marjorie Broadhurst and stepbrothers Sammy and Joe, and AJ and Nick.
She is also survived by her fiancé Chris Reynolds who “did not leave her side, not for one minute. He was there with us when she passed.”
