Al Harrington, best known for his role as Detective Ben Kokua in the original Hawaii Five-0 series passed away on Tuesday September 21.

The beloved actor, born Tausau Ta’a, passed away in hospital in a Hawaii Hospital after suffering a serious stroke.

Hawaii Five-0 was on TV screens from 1968 until 1980. Harrington starred in the series alongside Jack Lord and James MacArthur.

Fans who also tuned into the reboot will have also enjoyed seeing him once again on the streets of Hawaii, but in a totally different outfit. In the new series, he portrayed Mamo Kahike, a bus driver and surf shop owner. It was his last acting gig.

Harrington also appeared in the Charlie’s Angels television series, The Jeffersons and Magnum P.I.

He also won a Hawai’i Academy of Recording Arts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.

We’re thinking of his loved ones during this difficult time.
