A US TV host has mocked Prince George after news surfaced that he would be attending weekly ballet classes.
Good Morning America’s Lara Spencer was discussing the future king’s new school curriculum when she said: “The future king of England will be putting down the Play-Doh to take on Religious Studies, computer programming poetry and ballet among other things.”
She then went on to say: “Prince William says George absolutely loves ballet. I have news for you Prince William, we’ll see how long that lasts.”
While the comments were well received with the in-studio audience, several celebrities and online personalities have come forward dubbing her comments “rude” and “outdated”.

I don’t want an apology from @LaraSpencer @GMA – I want to know why she thinks that a full schedule and ballet lessons are funny. My son is gifted, talented, & loves a full schedule. He’s also a dancer.
He codes. He programs. He studies literature. He dances.

Dear @LaraSpencer, perhaps you’ve learned the golden rule today: Don’t mess with the Broadway community when it comes to dancers. We are like the mafia.

My daughter #LisaMordente @msdebbieallen & other dancers said it all. Audiences that found what you said 'funny' actually listen and apply. Not good. Wonder how #JacquesdAmboise & #baryshnikov feel? Take your job as seriously as we do ours. #BoysDanceToo @GMA @LaraSpencer 2/2

These are my dancers. Stunts like the one @LaraSpencer
pulled on @GMA today are the reason my son is terrified his school friends will find out he loves to dance. Too bad you didn't spend the time building a kid up instead of tearing thousands down. #boysdancetoo #ballet4boys pic.twitter.com/20QEx3YdKP— Kelly (@kmachnik) August 23, 2019

@TomHolland1996 did ballet, too. It helped prepare him to be Spider-Man. He really can do flips! #Skillz pic.twitter.com/lRrbrPrmk5

Hey @GMA . If @LaraSpencer thinks a boy doing ballet is funny, have her do this sequence live on air. I guarantee you that would be funnier than shaming a young boy who is passionate about the art of dance. 👀#BoysDanceToo #ArtSavesLives #GoodMorningAmerica #LaraSpencer pic.twitter.com/FDlXKMTDRF

Lara Spencer has since issued an apology on Instagram.
“My sincere apologies for an insensitive comment I made in pop news yesterday. From ballet to anything one wants to explore in life, I say GO FOR IT. I fully believe we should all be free to pursue our passions. Go climb your mountain-and love every minute of it,” she wrote.
