A truly bizarre fish has washed up on Golden Beach.

A Gippsland local was on their morning stroll when they stumbled upon the catshark – an ocean floor-dwelling groundshark (not a half-cat-half-shark hybrid animal like we first hoped).

The animals usually live 500m below the water surface and can sometimes glow in the dark, absorbing blue light from the ocean and re-emitting it at lower energy wavelengths.

If you happen to bump into one, there’s no need to freak out, they’re harmless to humans.
